Recipe: Swedish Egg/Cowboy Coffee ☕️

Since I keep getting asked for this recipe in real life, I figured some of y'all might want it, too. Don't be put off by the egg; as long as we make 5+ cups, we can't taste it in the final product. It makes the resulting coffee velvety smooth & removes almost all bitterness, especially when using El Cheapo grounds.

The most important thing is, keep aside 10% more water to add in later & adjust the amount of grounds to your liking. This is how we like ours. We use far less milk & sugar with this brewing method, too.

This recipe makes ~12 cups, but is fully adjustable to your needs.

(All measurements are US volume, except the egg. We only use large or jumbo eggs in my house.)

12 c water, set to boil

12 T (which = ¾ c) coffee grounds

1 egg (shell & all)

9½ oz (or 1 c & 1½ oz) water, set aside

1. While the large amount of water is boiling, take the grounds & egg & mash 'em up in a small bowl.

2. Once the pot has boiled, add the coffee mix to the boiling water. Stir until mixed, then stand over it to see when the grounds come together and float in a mass. It usually takes 5 - 10 mins, but it varies widely enough that you need to learn it before using a timer.

3. At the floating mass point, remove the pot from the hot eye & add in the small amount of water, while stirring to incorporate it.

4. Decant/filter as you like, season your servings as desired, and enjoy!

This can be left out (when bugs aren't an issue) up to a week in cold weather or 3 days in hot. Otherwise, jar & refrigerate any unused coffee for later enjoyment.
